Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi (TV Tokyo, Winter 2013) is a TV adaptation of Miura Shion's novel of the same name. It is the continuation of the story 'Mahoro Ekimae Tada Benriken,' which was made into a movie in 2011. It starred Eita and Matsuda Ryuhei who are also reprising their roles in this drama. Set in a fictional town of Mahoro located somewhere between Tokyo and Kanagawa, the story features a divorced man in his thirties, Tada Keisuke ( Eita) who runs a benri-ya (odd job services). It is located on an unregistered lot in front of the town's train station. It has been a year since he encountered his former classmate, Gyoten Haruhiko ( Matsuda Ryuhei), also divorced, who had ended up staying with him, and somehow never left.
The two have little in common, and yet, they began working together, taking on 'most job requests as much as possible.' They meet all sorts of clients - an aging pro-wrestler, a love-struck karaoke customer, a stalked club hostess.

Episode Synopsis. A lot of things are going through Tada's mind. He has heard that the restaurant of his widowed customer got thrashed by an iron pipe-wielding, hooded assailant. He can't do anything to help since the proprietress refuses to press charges against the culprit who happens to be her brother.
Plus, the deadline for his moving out of the office building is drawing closer. Yet Tada is still undecided whether to transfer or just close down his Benri-ya business. Then, Gyoten discovers a man stretched out on the hallway in front of their office. It was the assailant, all bloodied up and beaten to a pulp.

The conversation is interrupted by a phone call for Tada. It was from a proprietress of a well-known restaurant in town. He and Gyoten are asked to sort out the belongings of her deceased husband.
'She's a beautiful widow, you know.' The landlord informs Tada beforehand. Still, upon meeting her, Tada is taken aback by how young and lovely she is.
Gyoten notices and starts teasing him, especially when she asks Tada alone to help her in her restaurant and to drive her to and from work. 'She likes you that much, huh?'

But Tada insists it's just a job. However, as he spends more and more time with the lovely widow. Meanwhile, there's a mysterious man wearing a hooded jacket watching them from a distance. (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis. 'I want you to find the girl who killed her old man.'
The young gangster boss has told Tada. 'I just want her cellphone.
There are some stuff in there that could get us in trouble.' Tada is tasked to search the room of the girl who has since fled. In order to find clues for the girl's whereabouts, he asks his cop friend to let him get inside the scene of the incident. Meanwhile, Gyoten is once again looking after the pretty teen.
He notices that even when she claims she feels sad and worried for her missing friend, she seems somewhat nonchalant about it. (info and pic: ) ( ).
Episode Synopsis. The town of Mahoro is all abuzz about the incident involving a teen girl turned fugitive after allegedly killing her stepfather. The person who saw her last was her friend, a young pretty high school girl, who in turn is questioned by cops and the media. This unwanted attention causes a problem for the pretty girl's boyfriend who happens to be a head of a local Yakuza gang. The gang boss goes to his old friend Tada for help. 'I don't want any trouble,' he says.
'I want you to hide her here for awhile.' Tada wants to refuse but is in dire need of money to settle all of his unpaid bills.

Episode Synopsis. Tada is in a serious mood. He is telling Gyoten that they will have to move out of their office building someday since it will be torn down soon. 'By that time, I'm not sure if I can continue being a Benri-ya.' Just then, there was a knock on the door. It was the owner from a nearby bento shop. He has brought with him his morose-looking, childhood friend who happens to be a member of a Yakuza gang.
They show Tada an item wrapped in brown paper. Tada looks at it and realizes what it is and vehemently refuses to accept it. 'But we don't know what else to do,' the bento vendor implores him. 'Please take this gun and get rid of it!' (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis.

A lovely but seemingly embarrassed woman comes to Tada Benriken. She introduces herself as someone who works as a 'Sakura' (someone who poses as a customer to lure other customers) at an online dating site. She says she has been deceiving a certain customer for the past five years.
'He has spent over 10 million yen at the website. I feel so guilty.' She wants to meet him so she could apologize in person.
However, he refuses to see her. 'And I don't know his real name and address,' she says. 'Please find him so I can meet this person!' (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis. Tada and Gyoten show up at a house of an old married couple. Their customer, the woman of the house, shows them a shed filled with all sorts of things acquired throughout the years.
'Please sort out this storage room.' Tada accepts the request and promises to start working on it the next day. As they were leaving, Gyoten notices a man loitering in front of the woman's house. The man, who is in his early 30s and wearing a suit, approaches them. After reading the advertisement on their truck, he asks, 'So you'll do any job request?' The three of them go to a bar to discuss the man's job proposal.
However, after hearing it, Tada suddenly stands up, furious. 'I have to refuse. I'll pretend this discussion never happened!' (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis.
'Please take this out of here without being seen by anyone.' The woman orders Tada sternly. 'And dispose of it.'
The customer, a rich old widow had earlier called Tada to pick up a bulk object from her deceased husband's warehouse. The object, as she scornfully puts it, 'so utterly disgusting,' had been kept secretly by her husband for many years. It was a life-sized, highly realistic wax figure of a stark naked woman. Tada murmurs, as he eyes it with awe, '.it's so amazingly lifelike.' Later in the day, Gyoten asks him what he will do with the scandalous figure. 'Don't tell me you're not gonna get rid of it?'
Tada replies, thoughtfully, 'It might fetch a high price.' (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis. A pretty woman who works at a hostess club comes to Tada Benriken. She asks Tada and Gyoten to look into a mysterious occurrence inside her apartment. She says she notices some things have been added or slightly moved even though she is sure she is alone.
Tada says it might only be paranoia and refuses to take on the request. Days later, they both bump into her again. 'I knew it wasn't paranoia!' She blurts out to them. She had apparently received email messages proving that someone had been inside her apartment and going through her private things.
Help me catch this stalker!' (info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis. It was nighttime at Limelight Bar. Some drunk customers are singing karaoke songs. At a nearby table, Tada and Gyoten are eating their usual dinner.
The proprietress comes and reminds them that their over-all bill has already reached over ¥50,000. 'When will you pay?' Meantime, Tada hears a karaoke song being played but no one is singing. He looks over and sees a bespectacled man just staring at the karaoke video. The proprietress says he does that all the time. 'Puts on the same song, just stares at it and doesn't sing.' The next day, the same man pays them a visit at Tada Benriken.
He says he will foot their bill at the bar if they take on his unusual request. 'Please, let me meet the female model in the karaoke video!'
(info and pic: ) ( ). Episode Synopsis. A year has passed since Gyoten moved into Tada's benri-ken as a free loader. Gyoten has also been coming along and helping Tada whenever there's a job to do.
But during the task of demolishing a house, Gyoten refuses to work, saying Tada hasn't paid him a salary yet. 'I don't remember you hiring me,' Gyoten says. 'I don't remember hiring you either,' Tada responds, irked. The two began play-wrestling with each other on the site, much to the chagrin of their client who hired them. However, a middle-aged man quietly watches their roughhousing, and visits them the next day at their office. He introduces himself as a pro-wrestler, who is about to retire soon. 'Please,' he implores the two, ' be my opponents for my final match!'
